Praise for Alabama Ballet @ Home:

“I have to admit that I was skeptical about how we could transform the studio into a performance space; but, my wife Lesley and I felt the intimacy of the studio more than outweighed the loss of grandeur that a large stage can lend to a performance. We especially enjoyed the mix of the program. The classical pieces (Shostakovich and Don Quixote) were beautiful and by being so close, you could understand why costuming is so important to the overall theatrical/dance experience. The more contemporary pieces (Roger's Messin' with Mozart and Jamorris' Affair, among others) were particularly powerful because you could experience, as if onstage, how the Company makes very difficult andintricate and athletic dance moves look almost effortless, which is, I think, the very definition of grace. We enjoyed every minute of watching a ballet "At Home". We had brought a couple with us who had never experienced the Alabama Ballet. Each of them had been competitive athletes earlier in their lives and they couldn't believe the power and the passion that our dancers brought to their performances. And they were grateful to be able to meet them in such a personal setting after the show. All in all, a fantastic evening. I'm for an "Alabama Ballet At Home" every year.” -Barry McRae, Alabama Ballet Board Member

“I felt like Alice slipping into Wonderland… dancers so close I could touch them …drawing me into a magical world. No need to visit the Bolshoi – we have Tatiana! As for passion, Jamorris’ Affair raised the room temperature to sizzling. Thirty two pirouettes? Katie or Jennifer leave us gasping for air. As for genius: Roger has the ability to lead us to uncharted territory, somewhere between Mozart and the next Millennium.” - Clara Gerhardt, Alabama Ballet Honorary Board Member and longtime supporter
